( CNN) The President's latest Twitter attack on the special counsel investigation by Robert Mueller is likely to claim a new victim: Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the lawyer at least nominally in charge of the investigation.
Rosenstein was the Justice Department official who drafted a memo to the President alleging numerous inadequacies in the performance of then-FBI Director James Comey. The memo included stinging criticism of the FBI director's handling of the investigation of Hillary Clinton's email.
Shortly thereafter, the President shocked the nation with the proclamation that he had fired the controversial FBI director he had only recently praised. The White House press office immediately pointedto Rosenstein's detailed memoranda as the justification for Comey's surprise termination.
