The rise of the “internet of things”( IOT) — a vague word encompassing anything which connects to the internet that you usually wouldn't expect to — has flooded households and industries in various regions of the world with poorly procured devices easily accessible online, from webcams and printers to “smart” fridges and speakers.
Experts have been sounding alarm systems for years, with little progress. So this month, Japan will take the revolutionary step of hacking its own citizens to try to alert them to the risks posed by their internet-enabled devices.
